A G-Tube Formula Recipe that Warms Your Heart: Pumpkin Pie
There is indeed a whirlwind of emotions when it comes to feeding your baby through a tube. Some days you won’t even mind it, it’ll be systematic, and other days it hits you like a brick and it’s all you can think about. Those are the days I need recipes like this – Paigey’s Pumpkin Pie.
Jump to Recipe“Paigey’s Pumpkin Pie” has even more meaning to me, though, because it was created by Paige’s friend – an 11-year-old who has taken Paige under her wing, Eleanora. She’s fascinated with Paige, she loves her for who she is – she’s patient with her, and she’s not scared to learn new things. Paige’s food is exciting and new to her, and all she wants to do is love Paige by making her new recipes. “She can have this recipe for thanksgiving!” she said – and that’s exactly what we’ll do.

Paigey’s Pumpkin Pie
For emotions sake, Eleanora created a recipe that would resemble something we’re all fond of. A taste of what people who can swallow have and feel. Something that smells good, looks good, and in Paige’s case it’s even healthy!!
Almond Milk
Almond milk is my go-to milk for Paige’s recipes since its good protein and its dairy free. Also, if you’re adding something with high caloric content like nuts or oil, it makes it a good choice to not go over the caloric need of the day. If I did regular milk, this recipe would be closer to 800-900 calories – and Paige would be even chubbier than she is now! Think of almond milk as the whipped cream on the pie!
Almond Butter
What about the crust, you ask… How in the world will you incorporate a “healthy” crust that’s blendable?? Introducing… Almond butter! Did you know that nuts with butter make a great crust? Think of graham cracker crust but with nuts! On top of that, almond butter is a great protein, high calorie and fat food that warms everybody right up!
Eggs
As we all know, pumpkin pie won’t bake right without the eggs…. And for g-tube babies, eggs are a blendable protein that are low calorie and have a bunch of nutrition. I typically homemake breakfast sandwiches and cook eggs in the oven, so I just use one of those already cooked eggs for Paige’s Pumpkin Pie!
Gold Ole Canned Pumpkin and Cinnamon
This is what gives this recipe the warm and soothing smell that makes you want to eat all of it! I typically am not even tempted to taste Paige’s food, but this recipe makes my mouth water. Canned pumpkin and some cinnamon and mmm we are ready to blend!!
