Chicken Noodle Soup for a Tube
Let’s Be Real
Every time I go to post a recipe on my blog, I hesitate since I don’t have professional pictures or fancy ways to explain certain ingredients. Yet, that is exactly the point I’m trying to make – you don’t have to be “cool” or monetarily driven to be successful in simple ways like this – making your child g-tube formula. So, if you have a normal kitchen with dishes piled high, spills on the floor, a fridge that is full of expired food – this recipe is for you!
Feeling Joy in a Recipe
Many things I stress as part of my journey as a medical parent are the emotional aspects of daily tasks. For example, feeding your child with a tube. Most often, it becomes part of nature – other times, it hits you a little harder than most. That is why I create fun recipes – ones that make me smile even on the hard days. The following recipe, Chicken Noodle Soup, is one of them – it’s one that simply made me smile.
Recipe Notes
For my girl, I try to stay away from gluten, sugar, and processed goods. This is a primary reason why I home-make her food. Therefore for this recipe I use Banza Chickpea Noodles – an excellent way to give carbs, protein, vegetables, yet have the “noodle” element for our emotional well being.
The chicken I use is the multi-pack of 3.2 oz at Costco – I stick them in the freezer, then the day of making the recipe I pull them out and use them. When making homemade g-tube formula, you need to find easy, inexpensive ingredients like this to help the difficulty decrease.
Another good idea is to get the frozen Dorit spices (see below) that are easy to add into a recipe. Garlic has so many health benefits, and Dorit allows it to be convenient to add to meals.
This recipe is also a good way to use those chicken scraps or the 1 cup of chicken broth sitting in your fridge…
