Leaning In – Stress, but in a Marriage’s Perspective

In a few moments I will be leading a discussion on loving our husbands – and I cannot help but realize that the time I learned what true sacrificial love was, was when I wrote this poem. I pray that my readers can be encouraged to love their husbands, even if it feels like the world around you is caving in.

There comes a time,

When two become one.

It’s joyful – it’s exciting.

You learn one another,

You lean on him every second of every day.

You say things like, “What if?” And your mind says, “no way – I would never do that to him!”

Yet then it comes – a tsunami wave comes rushing

There’s no way to hide,

There’s nowhere to run

You hold his hand,

You squeeze it tight

But water floods over –

You feel his touch

But you can’t see his face

You’re drowning together,

Yet alone

All you knew,

All you thought you’re so good at –

All comes tumbling down –

Will it stand the test of time?

Will it be strong, no matter what comes?

I start to see his figure come into view –

His fingers, they grip tighter

He’s pulling me now,

I feel his warmth

“Where were you, babe?” He smiles and says

“I’ve been here the whole time”

The tears stream down my face – mixing in with the water that surrounds us –

“I couldn’t find you, I couldn’t see – I thought I’d lose you, can you see?”

He wraps me in his arms so tight – and whispers gently in my ear

“All you have to do,

Is lean in”
