“How to explain, the instinct that washes over me.
The doctors, they come.
The nurses - they sometimes care.
But I’m the one,
Who’s Dr Mom.

I know more, I see more.
I see when she holds her breath -
I see when her eyes become tired.
The seizures? They’re sub-clinical.
But sometimes, I see those too.

Her eyes, I watch them.
Her little hands,
I watch their every move.
You say I have no training -
you’ve been in school for years.
But I held her inside me,
for ten long months -
I felt her every move.
There’s something about a mother with a baby -
She’s the smartest expert there is.
Trust yourself -
you know your baby best.
Don’t be ashamed,
to be Dr. Mom.”

“Happy” Mothers Day

May 12, 2024May 12, 2024 Sylvia0

“Happy” mothers day, we say – Jolly and sincere, To all the women who look the part, Who all have a baby in tow. A thing we say to bring a smile, To appreciate our mothers – to show them we see. Yet we don’t realize, So often we don’t. Mother’s Day, for some, Is […]

The Emotional Rollercoaster of a G-Tube Fed Baby: Part 2

April 9, 2024April 9, 2024 Sylvia0

When beginning my journey to create meals for my daughter, I was overwhelmed with all the options. I was also overwhelmed with accepting the fact that my girl won’t taste her food – in a lot of ways, that’s amazing. But there’s also no reason to give her the joy of ice cream. I don’t […]

The Emotional Rollercoaster of a G-Tube Fed Baby: Part 1

April 7, 2024April 7, 2024 Sylvia2

My daughter has been fed through a tube since she was 9 weeks old. It started out as an NG tube (that’s a little tube that goes through her nose, down into her stomach), and then she transitioned to a G-tube on March 1, 2023.  A g-tube is a tube that is held in place […]

My Baby is Fed Through a Tube

March 14, 2024March 14, 2024 Sylvia0

I’ve gotten quite used to the look when I say “My baby ate this or that..” and they say “Oh I thought they couldn’t eat solid foods?” and it ends with my explaining that she’s fed through a tube, and they try to keep the “That’s weird” look off their face… I think any of […]

Welcome to Dr. Mom

March 3, 2024March 3, 2024 Sylvia3

Two years ago, I was on my way to Alabama and Florida – I had a road trip on my own, as an “independent and free” person – more free than I even knew! I was very excited because it was the first time I felt fairly free after I lost my first baby. I […]
