“Dear DME” – A Poem for Durable Medical Equipment Companies

Dear DME,
I never knew you before,
I never could pronounce your name
Equipment is for farms, I thought
Durable is for depots
Yet here I am,
Washing you every day
I press your buttons every morning,
I stop your alarms every night
I give you nicknames now,
I hear your noises everywhere -
I even dream you talk
From little to small,
You sure do cover it all
Enteral or vent -
You’re my #1 provider of them all
I never once thought equipment could make me cry
I never knew you’d help my baby breathe
My babies tummy,
It’s full now
All because of DME
Dear DME,
I sound silly I know
But thank you, anyway,
For what you do
You give her breath, you give her food
So then I can give her all the rest
Sincerely,
Dr Mom
